Correctly Set up Microphone

When setting up a microphone stand you must ensure that you follow procedures correctly in order for safety and stability.

1. Spread the legs apart ensuring the feet are fully extended and the base is at the bottom of the stand stem.
2. Loosen the thumbscrew on the bottom so you can extend the post, then tighten to hold in place.
3.Loosen the collar then adjust the stand height. (the round attachment should come up to the performers belly button) Then tighten screw.
4. Loosen the final thumbscrew to adjust the telescoping arm over one of the stand's legs to ensure stability and balance.
5. Adjust microphone clip so it is facing the correct way.
6. Attach microphone.

Correctly Packed Up Microphone

When packing up the microphone stand, it is very important to follow procedure correctly for safety reasons and easier transportation and OH&S requirements.

Pack up stand using the above procedure but in reverse order. Ensure the post is in line with the folded legs and the folded down telescoping arm has the microphone facing down.

Unbalanced Audio Cable

Balance is defined in terms of the impedance of the two signal conductors with respect to reference, which is usually ground. If these impedances are equal and non-zero, the system is balanced. If the impedances are unequal the system is unbalanced. A signal conductor with a grounded return conductor is, therefore, an unbalanced system.

Balanced
Balanced connections employ three conductors, one for the positive and one for the negative phase of the signal, and one for the ground. This ensures maximum protection against hum and interference.

Unbalanced
Unbalanced connections employ two conductors, one for the signal and the other for the ground, and are much more subject to hum and interference than balanced connections. Consumer equipment generally uses unbalanced connections.
